Next years automotive colours unveiled

BASF Coatings has unveiled a new collection of automotive colours entitled ‘Driving the Proxy’. The palette is based on global trend analyses and was developed in collaboration with design studios in Asia-Pacific, EMEA and America. The aim is to create inspiring colour concepts for future vehicle designs.

The collection focuses on effect colours in a plain look with subtle glitter effects and a variety of surfaces ranging from high-gloss metallics to deep matt tones. The focus is shifting from cool, technical shades to warmer, more emotional nuances such as reds, mauves and browns. This development reflects a cultural re-evaluation of innovation, which is increasingly associated with warmth and connection.

Particular attention is paid to key shades that vary by region. The EMEA region, for example, presents a bluish-purple interference tone that creates a multidimensional surface effect. In Asia-Pacific, the focus is on a warm metallic shade that reflects the duality between technological progress and tranquillity. In America, a brown tone with a culturally inspired, vibrant glitter effect is highlighted, emphasising identity and diversity.

Sustainability is an integral part of the collection: some colours contain recycled or renewable raw materials, and technological developments enable new visual effects. Digital visualisation tools support the planning and development of future designs, meaning that certain colours could already be seen on vehicles in the coming years.

The collection shows how colour trends are shaped by global influences, technological innovations and sustainable materials. For the automotive industry, it offers a variety of approaches to combining visual and haptic diversity with responsible production.
